What is EMI?
An equated monthly instalment repays principal and interest. With a fixed rate, the regular payment stays the same while the share paid toward principal grows over time.
How is it calculated?
Monthly payment = P × r ÷ [1 − (1 + r)−n], where P is your loan amount, r is the annual interest rate (as a percentage) divided by 1,200, and n is the number of months. At zero interest, it is P ÷ n.

This tool assumes monthly compounding and payments at the end of each month. It does not model flat-rate loans, variable rates, prepayments or charges. Read the CFPB payment explanation ↗

Frequently asked questions
How is EMI calculated?
For a positive rate, the calculation uses principal × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n − 1), where r is the monthly rate and n is the number of monthly payments. At zero interest, payment is principal divided by n.
Is this a flat-rate interest calculator?
No. It models fixed nominal annual interest with monthly compounding and end-of-month payments on the remaining balance. A flat-rate quote uses a different basis.
Are lender fees included?
No. Fees, taxes, insurance, changing rates and early repayments are excluded. Check the lender’s repayment quotation before making a decision.
Privacy, compatibility and limits
Supports terms of 1–600 months and annual rates of 0–100%. This is a planning estimate rather than a loan offer. Calculations run in your browser; rounding may cause small differences from lender schedules.
