Calculation methodology.
Each menu option now opens a benefit calculation appropriate to its regime. Statutory gratuity, a pension and a funded account are different entitlements; the calculator keeps their inputs and assumptions visible.
Compare the calculation routes
| Category | Method and required information |
|---|---|
| Federal private sector | Basic monthly salary ÷ 30. 21 days per year for the first five years, 30 afterward. One qualifying year; unpaid days excluded; two-year contractual wage ceiling. Part-time uses comparable full-time pay and an hours ratio. |
| DIFC | Annual basic ÷ 365, with basic at least 50% of total wage. Traditional 21/30-day legacy accrual stops before 1 February 2020 for the standard qualifying-scheme route. Add the actual scheme balance. Exempt statutory cases require confirmed exemption and use the two-year total-wage cap. |
| ADGM | Current regulations from 1 April 2025: annual basic ÷ 365 and the 50% wage floor; 21/30-day bands after a calendar year. No mainland wage cap or second part-time scaling. A written scheme election uses the confirmed scheme / lump-sum balance instead. |
| UAE national | GPSSA law 7/1999 or 57/2023: authority-confirmed calculation salary and contributory service, when pension entitlement is absent. 1.5 months per year for first five, 2 for next five, 3 thereafter. Other authorities use your confirmed schedule. |
| Government | Federal standard: current 21/30-day mechanism, HR-confirmed legacy rights and editable prior service in the five-year band. Local/entity rules require an approved schedule; funded arrangements use recorded payable balances. |
| Domestic worker | Approved-contract schedule: enter day rates, minimum service, salary divisor and ceiling. No historical 14-day rate or private-sector 21/30 rate is assumed automatically. |
| Alternative savings | Actual payable fund balance plus a separately held, unpaid pre-enrolment amount. Basic at enrolment determines preserved gratuity. Current indicative employer contributions use 5.83% / 8.33%, with hours proportion where relevant. |
| Temporary / other | Temporary or flexible models use comparable full-time gratuity and the annual-hours proportion. Temporary service below one year has no statutory gratuity. Remote full-time retains the full federal formula. Other contracts use their confirmed schedule. |
Service and salary conventions
The federal private-sector route counts actual dates, removes unpaid days and divides service by 365. Daily basic pay uses monthly basic ÷ 30, following Article 67. DIFC and ADGM use complete calendar anniversaries and an actual-days fraction of the next anniversary year; their gratuity daily rate is annual basic ÷ 365. This partial-year convention is an estimate and should be compared with payroll.
The first working day is included and the last day can be included or excluded. Government new-period partial months are rounded upward after testing one actual full year. GPSSA uses authority-confirmed combined contribution service; residual months are rounded up only after at least one complete year. Do not subtract mainland unpaid-leave days from a pension or financial-zone calculation.
Pension status and salary basis
A national’s pension law and registered fund cannot be inferred from nationality alone. Under GPSSA 1999, the salary average generally uses the last three years for government service or five for private employment. Under GPSSA 2023 it generally uses six years, or the shorter applicable contribution history. Enter the authority-confirmed calculation salary. The tool shows a pension-assessment outcome when pension entitlement exists or status is unconfirmed; it does not relabel a monthly pension as gratuity.
Government transitions
The standard federal route defaults to 2 January 2023, the enforcement date stated in Law 49/2022. Enter the transition date applicable to your entity and an HR-confirmed unpaid legacy amount. Pre-transition years are estimated for allocation to the first-five-year band unless you enter an HR-confirmed figure. That allocation is an explicit estimate because the retrieved legislation does not supply a worked transition example. Local governments can have different salary freezes, rates and funded schemes, so no universal local formula is assumed.
Fund balances and legacy amounts
A statement value already reflecting investment returns and fees is used as entered. The tool does not reconstruct historical contributions using today’s salary, apply a gratuity cap to an investment account, or predict returns. Only a separately held and unpaid legacy amount is added. Select “already included” or “already settled” to prevent counting legacy rights twice.
For the federal Savings Scheme, enter the enrolment date. Employer contributions may be recoverable if employment ends before one year, so that case requires confirmation of the actual payable balance after the provider’s adjustments. Indicative monthly contributions are information only and are not added again to the fund value. Employee voluntary savings should be included only as they appear in your payable statement balance.
Contract-dependent benefits
Domestic-worker Article 22 delegates gratuity regulation without giving a universal numerical day rate in the retrieved current law. The contract route therefore requires your approved schedule. Local government, other pension authorities and unusual work arrangements can use the same explicit schedule input. Enter zero only where the schedule specifies it; a zero cap means no contractual ceiling. Contract date proration uses selected actual days ÷ 365 and must be checked against the contract.
Limits of the estimate
Results exclude other settlement items and unentered deductions. Death, disability, disputed service, historic laws, special exemptions and authority awards may need additional assessment. Future dates use the reviewed rules; a statement balance is not projected forward. Full precision is retained until display, so independently rounded rows can differ from the rounded total by a cent.
