Compress PDF Online
Make your PDF easier to share. Choose whether to keep native text or make smaller image pages, then compare actual file sizes.
Source preview
Your uploaded PDF appears automatically. Open the output to check compression quality.
Your PDF is ready
Your source file stays unchanged. Interactive forms, signature widgets and encrypted PDFs are not supported. New outputs do not preserve document-level bookmarks and attachments. Image-page compression also flattens page content. Download before reloading, closing the tab or using browser back/forward navigation.
About Compress PDF
Try a smaller PDF for email, applications or document sharing, with the result measured against your original file.
How to use Compress PDF
- Choose one supported PDF or reuse a ToolPaxa PDF result.
- Choose Keep text & graphics, or an image-page mode for smaller scanned documents. Read the quality tradeoff before processing.
- Compress, compare the original and result sizes, and open the output to check quality. Download or continue with another PDF tool.
Features and output
The uploaded PDF preview appears automatically; switching pages loads that source page. Three clear output modes, actual size and percentage comparison, local processing, cancellation for image-page compression and output reuse. If a mode creates a larger file, the original bytes are offered instead.
When this tool is useful
Reduce a scanned application, a picture-heavy PDF or a combined document before sharing. Use native-content mode when selectable text and vector graphics matter.
Frequently asked questions
Will every PDF become smaller?
No. Savings depend on the contents and existing optimization. Already compact files may not shrink; if the candidate is not smaller, the original bytes are kept. No target file size is guaranteed.
Does compression keep searchable text?
Keep text & graphics copies native PDF pages and retains their text. The 144 dpi and 96 dpi modes make each page a JPEG image: text stops being selectable/searchable, and links and annotations are flattened. No OCR is performed.
Which image-page mode should I choose?
144 dpi retains more detail at JPEG quality 72%; 96 dpi uses JPEG quality 50% for a smaller candidate. Rendering is capped at 4 megapixels per page and 3000/2200 pixels per side respectively. Small text and fine drawings may lose detail. Review the output.
Can I compress a merged or watermarked PDF?
Yes. Continue from Merge, Watermark or another compatible ToolPaxa result. After compression, use the same output in another PDF tool without a new upload.
Privacy, compatibility and limits
One PDF up to 50 MB and 200 pages; output up to 100 MB. Encrypted PDFs, interactive forms and signature widgets are rejected. New outputs do not preserve document-level bookmarks and attachments. Files are processed in browser memory. Requires a current JavaScript-enabled browser with module workers. Download before closing, reloading or using browser back/forward navigation. Native-content mode does not re-encode embedded images. Image-page modes flatten visible pages and remove searchable text, links, annotations and hidden content. Output pages use their displayed dimensions and orientation. Compression is content-dependent, with no guaranteed reduction or target size.
